Memorials to internationalist - soldiers devoted to the Soviet soldiers who perished in Afghanistan during 1979-1989. 92 citizens of the Leningrad Oblast have not come back from the Afghanistan War. The perpetuation of their memory was gone off the veterans' and public unions' initiative. One of the first memorials to internationalist - soldiers "The Mother and Son" (1990; the sculptor A.N. Chernitsky) was opened in the town of Pikalyevo. The monument "The Belief and Fidelity" (the sculptor N.N. Lykov) was erected in the town of Tosno on May 8, 2003. There if one more memorial complex on Rumbolovskaya Mountain (the town of Vsevolozhsk. Since 2005 building memorials and monuments is carried out in towns of Kirishi, Tikhvin, Kingisepp. A memorable sign to internationalist - soldiers perished at local wars and military conflicts was opened in the town of Gatchina in 2005.
