"The Park of Peace", memorial, the

"The Park of Peace" is a memorial park located between the villages of Lezye and Sologubovka (the Kirov district). On its territory there are graves of Soviet soldiers and Wehrmacht soldiers perished during World War II and memorial granite steles with the names of buried soldiers. According to the Russian-German agreement of 1994 the works on the creation of one of the biggest in Europe military cemeteries (about 80 thousands graves) are carried out. Opening the memorial "The Park of Peace" and the memorial cemetery took place on September 9, 2000. The sculpture "The tragedy of War ("The Grieving Mother"), which is the gift of the German sculptor U. von Lyaisner, was placed in the park. In the park there is the working Church of of the Dormition of the Mother of God (1852, the architect V.Ye. Morgan). It was restored in 2003.
