"The Broken Ring", memorial

The memorial "The Broken Ring" is included into "The Green Belt of Glory" and located on the western shore of Ladoga Lake. It was built in 1966 by workers of the Kalininsky district of Leningrad to the east of the village of Vaganovo at the Vaganovsky slope where the land stretch of "The Road of Life" was begun. The memorial was opened on October 29, 1966. It was built on the project of the architect V.G. Filippov, sculptors K.M. Simun and V.T. Dugonets, the artist V.N. Yakovlev, the design engineer I.A. Rybin. The memorial was made in the form of two ferroconcrete semiarches with the height 7 metres and weight 32 tonnes. Arches symbolize the ring of the blockade, the break between them symbolizes "The Road of Life". On the construction concrete foundation there are motor car tyre tracks directed to water. Nearby of the memorial there are two ferroconcrete spheres imitated searchlights. At the memorial there is a real 85-mm antiaircraft gun which remembered about an antiaircraft battery located there.
