Aplaksin, Andrey Petrovich (1879-1931), architect

Andrey Petrovich Aplaksin (1879-1931) is an architect, artist, restorer, historian of architecture. He was graduated from the Institute of Civil Engineers (1904) and the Pavlovsk Military College (1906). From 1906 to 1914 he was the architect of St. Petersburg eparchy. In St. Petersburg Aplaksin led the restoration of the Cathedral of St. Sampson and the Kazan Cathedrals, the Church of St. Panteleimon; erected town residences of monasteries (including the residece of Kashin Convent of the Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple in 53, Bolshoy Sampsoniyevsky avenue and others). He built a church and a school in the Gdov uyesd (now it is the district in the Pskov Oblast), the church of SS. Peter and Paul in the settlement of Dibuni, a house for the clergy of a parish in Ust-Izhora. From 1918 to 1928 Aplaksin was being on military service. During last years of his life he worked as the chief engineer of the company "Eksportles" in Moscow. He was the author of projects of: the Church of the the Intercession of the Mother of God in Vychelobok Village of the Luga district (1907-1909), The Transfiguration Church near Luga Town (1908-1909), The Theophany Church in the Oyatsky Monastery of the presentation in the Temple (1908-1910, the church was not intacted), The Transfiguration Church in the village of Starosiverskaya of the Gatchina District, the Church of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God in Ivangorod town (1913-1915, the church was not intacted). According to Aplaksin's project the five-domed Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God (it was not intacted) was reconstructed in the settlement of Shapki (the Tosno district) in 1918. A.P.
