Nikolay Leontyevich Benois (1813-1898), an architect and artist-decorator. N.L. Benois graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in 1836. From 1846 he was a court architect of the Academy (1847), a professor (1858), an honorary member of the Academy of Arts (1896). He was an founder, the chairman (1890-1893), an honorary member of the St. Petersburg Society of Architects. He was the author of projects of buildings in St. Petersburg, Peterhof (the Court Stables, Lady-in-waiting houses, the post office building, the railway station), in Tsarskoye Selo, Moscow, Tambov, Helsingfors, in the Smolensk and Yekaterinoslav Gubernias. During 1853-1862 he built the group of buildings of the Lisino forestry and the Church of the Procession of the Venerable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord (Lisino-Korpus Settlement, Tosno District). In 1860-65 he built the Chapel "Krylechko" ("Small Porch") at the Tikhvin Dormition Convent. N.L. Benois died in St. Petersburg and was buried in the Vyborg Catholic cemetery. The gravestone was not intacted.
