The Tosno Museum of the Local History (Tosno Town, 47a Lenin Prospekt) was established in 1991. There are more then 3 thousand of items in the museum collection including personal things of the geodesist and astronomer B.V. Numerov who founded the first Russian Institute of Astronomy. The memorial collection was passed by the scientist's daughter to the Tosno Museum. The contemporary exposition opened on 12 July 2000 in the former house of M.A. Ustinova-Smolina, a wet-nurse of Nikholas II. Besides the materials devoted to the life and work of Numerov, also on the exposition there are exhibits on natural history of the district (including a herbarium of the local flora); the historical things of everyday life (a working loom and others); documents on history of noble estates located on the Tosno district territory, on the history of the house where the museum is placed. In the museum there is a hall for temporary exhibitions. Evenings of chamber music are held at the Fireplace hall. The museum is visited by 4.5 thousand people a year. Margolis, Aleksandr Davidovich
