CHEREPOVETS GUBERNIA, adm. and territorial unit with the center in the city of Cherepovets in the North-West of Russia in the early 20th century. The resolution to establish C. G. was adopted in 1918 at the meeting of representatives of five north-eastern uyezds of Novgorod Gubernia: Cherepovets, Kirillov, Belozersk, Tikhvin, and Ustyuzhna, and then approved by the Novgorod Gubernia Executive Committee, Russia’s Central Executive Committee and Council of People’s Commissars. C. G. bordered Novgorod Gubernia in the west, Petrograd (later Leningrad) Gubernia in the north-west, Olonets Gubernia (Karelian ASSR after July 25, 1923) in the north, Yaroslavl Gubernia in the south-east, and Tver Gubernia in the south. According to the census of August 28, 1920, the population of C. G. was 709,000. Under a new adm. division reform, the area of C. G. was included in Leningrad Oblast in 1927 as Cherepovets Area (canceled on July 23, 1930.) C. G. comprised, partly or in full, lands of current Boksitogorsk, Volkhov, Kirishi, and Tikhvin Districts of Leningrad Oblast. Yegorov, Sergey Borisovich
