Paper mill (village Ropsha), is the monument of the industrial architecture. The mill was built in 1787-89 (project of Y.M. Felten, realization of S.P. Bernikov). The building is located on the bank of the pond in the east part of the Ropshino park. The many ponds and tanks are included in the complex of Paper Mill with the help of the dams. The energy of the falling water was used in the production cycle. The planning of the building is typical for the early classicism of the 18th century. The building of the Paper Mill is the closed square with the courtyard. The building has three floors from the outside of the fasade. The fasade of the building is daubing. The building faces the pond and the park and is on the sides of two symmetrical arches. In 1917 Paper Mill was nationalized. The knitting company was in the building since 1939.During the Great Patriotic War the factory was destroyed. The building was restored in 1949-56. In 1952 the building and ponds was transferred to the All-Union scientific-research institute of lakes and fishes industry, and here was organized experimental station.
