“ZA UGLOM” (“ROUND THE CORNER”), popular theatre (1, 25 October avn.,Gatchina Town). Amateur theatre at Gatchina Town Centre of Social and Cultural Activities was founded in 1930. In 1961 the theatre acquired a status of a popular theatre. In 1989 it got its present name. Up to 1989 a creative director of the theatre was Rytov S.A., from 1989 – a production director is Shmakova T.A. The theatre is a member of International Association of Amateur Theatres (from 1994). Its repertoire includes: “Lubov” (“Love”) (Shizgall M.), “Peterburgskiye Snovideniya” (“St.Petersburg Dreams”) and “Zhenitba” (“Marriage”) (Gogol N.V.), “Dyadya Vanya” (“Uncle Vanya”) and “Ne Tolko Predlozheniye” (“Not Only a Proposal”) (Chekhov A.P.), “Lubovnik” (“Lover”) (Pinter G.), “Postup Golubey” (“Doves’ Step”) (Anderson R.), “… Chto Ugodno” (“… What You Will”) (based on W.Shakespear’s “ Twelfth Night ”), “Talanty I Poklonniky” (“Talents and Admirers”) (Ostrovsky A.N.), etc. The theatre took part in the VII International Festival of amateur theatres in Germany (1995), in the International Festival “Ekho-97” (“Echo-97”) (Lithuania), in St.Petersburg Festival “Rozhdesvensky Parad” (“Christmas Parade”) and many other festivals. Many times the theatre became a prize winner of the Leningrad Oblast Festival “Teatralnaya Vesna” (“Theatre Spring”). It is an initiator and organizer of the International Festival of amateur theatres “Avangard I Traditsiy” (“Vanguard and Traditions”) annually held in Gatchina Town since 2000. In 2001 the theatre acquired a status of experimental theatre, it houses several theatrical groups: a professional company, an amateur group and a studio with annual admission.
