Centre of the Veps folklore, the

The Centre of the Veps folklore (Vinnitsi Village, Podporozhsky District) was made in the local culture house. It is situated in the two-storeyed wooden building. The tasks of the Centre of the Veps folklore are keeping the Veps language and culture, developing traditional trades and handicrafts. A sizeable part of the Centre is occupied with the ethnographic museum. Its exposition presents the culture of Veps living in Podporozhsky District and introduces other Finno-Ugric peoples. Implements, utensils, clothes and objects showing the world outlook of Veps are exhibited in the museum. In the Centre of the Veps folklore there are ten amateur talent groups including the Veps puppet theatre, the folk group "Armas", the children's folk group "Vesely rucheyok" ("Cheerful Small Stream"), the choral group "Rosinka" ("Dewdrop"), the music-vocal group "Vecher" ("Evening"). Children are taught to weaving, patchwork skills, wood carving, making things from birchbark.
