The Pikalyevo Museum of the Local History (Pikalyevo Town, 14 Sovetskaya Street), a branch of "The Museum Agency". It was founded according to the order of the Leningrad Oblast Executive Committee (lenoblispolkom) as Boksitogorsk District Museum of the Local History, a branch of the Leningrad Oblast Museum Union on 9 August 1978. The first exhibition was presented for visitors in June of 1980. The Museum basis was the collection of the People's museum of the Spirovo village primary school of the Boksitogorsk district collected under leading E.P. Antonova, the Honored teacher of RSFSR, as well as the exhibition of the Military Glory Museum in the village of Astracha of the Boksitogorsk district (see the article: "Astracha. 1941"). There are about 10 thousand items in the museum funds. The museum funds include archaeological, ethnographical, numismatic collections; documents and photographs about the history and culture of the district; items of arts and crafts; works of painting and graphic arts, icons dated by the 18th - the early 20th centuris. There is a unique collection of handwritten and old printed books from the 12th till the early 20th centuries. The exhibitions, organizing by the museum, acquaint with the history, ethnography, culture of the district, present the creative work of inhabitants of Pikalyevo Town, the Leningrad Oblast and St. Petersburg. The theme expositions are made also. A particularized library on the local lore and history, the study of museums number about 1300 books. The museum is placed in the former dwelling house which was reequipped for those aims at the end of the 1980s. About 6.4 thousand people visit the museum every year. Yegorov, Sergey Borisovich
