Grey Horse, a fort

Grey Horse (since 1919 was Forward, after was Krasnogvardeysky) is a fort. It is located on the promontory of the same name in the south coast of the Gulf of Finland, in the 6 kilometers of west from fort Red Mountain, around Goravaldayskogo Lake. It was built as artillery battery, it had 7 ordnances of the 120 and 155 millimeters calibers. In the May of 1919 it repeled the offensive to Petrograd of the general A.P.Rodzyanko troops together with the fort fort Red Mountain. On 13-16 June of 1919 the counter-revolutionary revolt was excited in the Grey Horse, Red Mountain and Obruchev forts that was suppressed. The fort tool part in repulsing an offensive to Petrograd by army of the general N.N. Yudenich and in connection with it the fort was decorated with Red Banner of Honor. In 1920s during reconstruction the new concrete battery was built that was equipped with turret and ordnances which had been removed form written off ships. At the beginning of the September of 1941 the Soviet troops with the support of the ordnances of the fort stopped the offensive of the enemy army on the Voronka River. In the sequel the fort held the line of the Oranienbaum place of arms, supported the offensive of the Second Shock Army in the January of 1944. It was disarmed and in connection with liquidation of the Kronstad Fortress in the 1950s.
