TIKHVIN TOWN ARTS SCHOOL NAMED AFTER N.A. RIMSKY-KORSAKOV (2, 1st microdistrict, Tikhvin Town). Children’s musical school was opened in Tikhvin Town in January 1946. In 2001 it acquired a status of arts school. Founder – Administration of Municipal Institution “Tikhvinsky Raion” (“Tikhvin District”). The school has four departments: instrumental, vocal, choreography and theatre ones. 700 school students are trained in 26 special subjects. The school has classes of harp and double bass, the only ones in the Leningrad Oblast, and also a professional sound recording studio. Along with the standard educational programmes the school carries out authors’ programmes. More than 30% of school teachers are school graduates. During many years of concert activities, different teachers’ and students’ art groups were formed at school. Some of them have a status of “public” and “master” groups, including folk music and dance group “Mozaika” (“Mosaics”), brass band “Tikhvin”, band “Dixieland”, children’s group of Russian song and dance “Vesenniye Protalinky” (“Spring Thawed Patch”), etc. These art groups give more than 300 concerts during a school year, take part in different oblast musical contests and festivals as well as in international ones. Since1986 tours to France and Germany, according to the mutual projects with Tikhvin Town twin cities, have been held. The school has close collaboration with N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov’s House Museum, where the school teachers and graduates give solo concerts and mutual festivities are held. The school is an initiator of the Regional Contest named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov for Musical Schools’ Students in the North-West of Russia and of the International Jazz Festival “Setyabr v Tikhvine” (“September in Tikhvin Town”).
