Shchurupov, Mikhail Arefyevich (1815 - 1901), an architect, sculptor, applied art artist, restorer of the Old Russian architecture monuments, teacher. Shchurupov graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in 1836. During 1837-1855 he lived and worked in Italy, made the tombstone for K.P. Bryullov in Rome (1854-1855). From 1855 - to 1861 Shchurupov was the Head of the sculptural and drawing class at the Emperor Porcelain Works. He was a professor of the Academy of Arts from 1861. He was the author of church buildings in Kiev, Torzhok, Rybinsk, the Arkhangelsk and Novgorod Gubernias, Tokyo and on Athos Mount (Greece). In St. Petersburg Shchurupov built the Church of Sts. Boris and Gleb (1869-1882; it was not survived) and other churches, several tenement blocks. Among Shchurupov's works there is: the monument to K.I. Bistrom in Kingisepp Town (1839-1841), the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Kobona Village (1860-1861), the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God and and the alms-house of the Aleksey Society of Charity Affairs (1876-1879; they were not survived), the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God (1876-1877), the Chapel of St. Prince Alexander Nevski (1888-1891) and the City House (1888-1889) in Novaya Ladoge Town. Mikhail Arefyevich Shchurupov was buried in the Nikolskoye cemetery of the Alexander Nevski Monastery. Margolis, Aleksandr Davidovich
