THE ROZDESTVENO RURAL LIBRARY (7 Tereshchenko Street, Rozhdestveno Village). The library was founded in 1896 by Committee on Literacy at Liberal Economy Society, with the money of O. N. Rukavishnikova, the owner of the Vyra country estate and assistance and participation of Tsarskoe Selo zemstvo and merchant A. E. Repnikov. The members of the first library board were philanthropist I. V. Rukavishnikov, priest E. A. Dubrovitsky and teacher M. I. Demkin. Since 1904 the post of the trustee was held by one of the Kadet Party V. D. Nabokov, the father of the famous writer. The library was destroyed twice, both in the course of the Civil and the Great Partriotic War, then it was restored by the village residents. In 1957 it became home to the first area study museum in the Leningrad Oblast. From 1985 to 2005 the library had the status of a branch within the district centralized library network. Since 2006 it has been a structural division within cultural-and-information system of the settlement. Its general-purpose fund numbers 17,000 items, with 46,000 loans a year. The library has over 1,200 readers, with over 8,500 visits annually. The library is a permanent participant of the Leningrad Oblast Pushkin Festival. In cooperation with women’s club “Vera. Nadezhda. Lyubov’” (Faith, Hope, Love ) the library works to keep the historical and cultural traditions of rural life, organizing exhibitions of art and decorative works. The evenings hosted by the library are organized as meetings with actors, writers and poets, who leave their comments in “Avtograf na pamyat’” (The Signature for Memory) visitors’ book.
