PUSHKIN’S FESTIVITIES. They have been held in Gatchina District since 1986. The organizers are: Culture Committee under the Leningrad Oblast Government., the Leningrad Oblast Education and Methodology Centre of Culture and Art, the Municipal Institution “Gatchinsky Raion” (Gatchina District) administration and the Leningrad Oblast College of Culture and Art. Festive activities dedicated to the poet are called “Tebya Zh, Kak Pervuyu Lubov, Rossyiy Serdtse Ne Zabudet” (“The Heart of Russia will Never Forget You as People Never Forget Their First Love”), they are held in several stages. In June the poet’s birthday is celebrated, in October we celebrate the opening day of the Lyceum, in December activities, commemorating Decembrists’ uprising, are held, in February we celebrate the poet’s memorial day (“Poslednyaya Doroga” (“The Last Road”)). Diversity in the genres of performances defines places where activities are held. In Suyda Settlement (ref. “Suyda Settlement”, memorial estate) documentary plays and performances are held. In Kobrino Village (ref. Kobrino Village, estate) children’s festivities and folk groups’ performances are held. In Vyra Village (ref. “Dom Stantsionnogo Smotritelya” (“Postmaster’s House”), museum) performances involving Pushkin’s literary characters take place. Arts festival is held in Gatchina Town. Russian and foreign guests , including Pushkins’ and Hannibals’ descendants, take part in festive activities. A regular creative director and director of festive activities is M.I. Leikin.
