"Nevsky", a wooded park

Subject / Nature memorials

A woodland park "Nevsky" is located on the right bank of the Neva river, in the north-east from Novosaratovka Village (in the Vsevolozhsk district of the Leningrad Oblast). It was founded in 1937; at the same time drainage trenches were build and roads and lanes were laid. The modern area is 3168 hectares. The wooded park is located in the flat sandy and loamy Prinevskaya bottomland. The birches, spruces and pines dominated in the forest. The main part of the forest is wetland. The south part of the wooded park that is reached to the Neva River, is located on the place of the former country estate “Bogoslovka” of Zinovievs ( the early 19th century; the architect V.I. Beretti). Some elements of the park layout, some old trees (oaks, pines) and structure’s foundations remain of the country estate. The relief is more contrast due to deep (up to 10 meters) valleys of the Chernaya (The Black) River and its tributaries. On the slopes of the valleys the birch, aspen and spruce dominate (the spruce good resumes). At the end of the 19th century cottages in the woodland park began to lease to summer resident. In 1897 sculptor V. A. Beklemishev lived here. During the Great Patriotic War the woodland park Nevsky was badly damaged (up to 90 percent of the forest stand were destroyed and all buildings were razed). During postwar years the woodland park was expanded in several times. Two dams were built which made ponds in the south part of the wooded park, the road and reclamation net were restored, the thousands of trees and bushes (oaks, maples, spruces, larches, weeping willows, honeysuckle, hawthorns, syringe and others) were planted. Particularly Krasnaya (The Red) and Serebristaya (The Silver) glades in streamside of the Neva River are pictorial. The planked footways were built, the benches, couches and wooden sculptures were placed. In 1970s in the territory of the woodland park the apartment houses were built for workers of the Forestry Enterprises, in 1990s cottages were building. The building of the wooden church of the Intercession of the Mother of God was being started, the recreation of the country estate of Zinovievs is being designed.
