The Tikhvin Historical, Memorial, Architectural and Arts Museum (TIMAKhM, Tikhvin Town, 6 Tikhvin Street) is a branch of "The Museum Agency". The museum has been being with its contemporary name since 1988. It was founded as the museum of the local antiquities according to the initiative of the Novgorod Antiquity Lovers Society Tikhvin branch in 1913. I.P. Mordvinov took active part in creating this museum of private collections. The Tikhvin State Museum of the Local History was founded on the basis of the Museum of the Local Antiquities in a building of the Tikhvin Monastery of the Holy Dormition in 1919. In 1941 the museum was destroyed from a shell explosion, the museum collections were almost lost completely. The local history museum of the school No. 1 of Tikhvin Town, that was given the status of a state museum in 1968, started the contemporary collections. After the restoration of the Tikhvin Monastery of the Holy Dormition in 1995, the monastery territory and a part of the museum buildings are in joint use. In 2005 the permanent expositions - "Tikhvin Town at the End of the 19th - the Early 20th centuries"; "The Church of the Most-Pure Mother of God in Tikhvin" (it is devoted to the Tikhvin miracle-working Icon of the Mother of God); "Archaeological Explorations of the Tikhvin District on the late 19th - the early 20th centuries"; "Church Antiquities" - were opened in the former Archimandrites' and Public cells. The museum collections contains more then 35 thousand items including funds of archaeology, numismatics, arms, the historic and common fund, the fund of fine art and applied art, the fund of photo-documents and the fund of rare books. Theme and art exhibitions are organized in the cocert-exhibition hall (the former church of the Triumph of the Holy Cross). The methodical room was opened in the museum, the museum- educational seminars are arganized. The museum is visited by 23 thousand a year. Margolis, Aleksandr Davidovich
