Uspenskoye, a country estate (the village of Staraya Ladoga, Volkhovsky prospect, 19). The estate was created by the brothers Melgunovs in the 18th century not far from the Staraya Ladoga fortress on the River Volkhov bank. In the estate there was a wooden manor-house, sevice blocks and garden. Since 1807 the estate belonged to A.R. Tomilov, a landowner, patron of art and collector. He started to rebuild the estate and equip the territory with modern services and utilities. At the River Volkhov bank two ponds were digged, where mirror carps were breeded. Stairs made of limestone flags led to the ponds from the manor-house located along the river bank. A lime-tree alley led towards the monastery wall, other alleys led to Malysheva mountain and to the road to Novaya Ladoga. In the other part of the park territory there was the park in the landscape style with broadleaf trees. Hothouses and fruit garden were placed to the west from the manor-house. In 1816 a two-stoeied brick block was built to the wooden manor-house, the covered gallery connected both buildings. Under Tomilov the estate became the centre of the art life of St. Petersburg Gubernia. In the estate there was a great collection o sculpture, antiquities, prints, drawings by Russian and foreign artists. The estate was visited by painters, architects, poets, writers - Giacomo Quarenghi (Guarenghi), V.L. Borovikovsky, I.K. Aivazovsky, O.A. Kiprensky, A.O. Orlovsky, A.G. Venetsianov, P.E. Zabolotsky, V.M. Maksimov, N.K. Roerich, B.M. Kustodiyev and others. Painters who visited the estate painted the estate outskirts on their pictures. The Tomilovs family patronized to the local painters, made contributions into the surrounding monasteries. In 1918 after the confiscation of the estate from the last owners Ye.G. and A.V. Shvarts the art collection was passed into the Russian Museum. The wooden manor-house was not intacted. The brick outhouse has been intacted during World War II, now the museum stocks of the Staraya Ladoga History, Architecture and Archaeology Museum Reserve are placed there. ,
